Few places in the world capture the imagination and inspire your inner-adventurer more than Machu Picchu & Cusco, the capital city of the impressive and extensive Inca Empire (Tawantinsuyu in Quechua: ‘Realm of the Four Parts’) that spanned a large part of the South American continent. In this popular 5 day tour you will visit some of the main highlights of one of the most visited travel destinations in South America. This great value tour package is ideal for travellers with limited time and those on a budget. Built more than 570 years ago as a royal retreat in the clouds for the Inca emperor Pachacuti, Machu Picchu is located deep in the Andes mountain range, close to the boundary with the Amazon rainforest. Luckily for us, the locals kept it a secret from the Spanish Conquistadors (who had a terrible habit of destroying things!) and this jewel of Inca architecture was slowly reclaimed and hidden by nature for over 350 years until it was rediscovered by the famous American historian, Hiram Bingham, back in 1911. Peru has a lot more to offer than its most famous citadel ruin, as you can imagine, and if you have time you might want to visit one the many must-see locations throughout this impressive country, such as Lake Titicaca, Arequipa, the Colca Canyon, Paracas, Nasca, Kuelpa, Gocta Falls, and the Amazon rainforest … among many others.

- The popular Vistadome train service by Peru Rail is a highly recommended upgrade to include with your trip; with its extra large windows that extend to the ceiling, offering you panoramic views of the epic scenery on the way up to Aguas Calientes. In addition it has comfier seats, more leg room, and light snacks are included along with entertainment. Inca Rail also operate on this route, offering similar services to those offered by Peru Rail, the 360 service is their equivalent of the Vistadome, and has slightly cheaper ticket prices.
- For those who enjoy trekking, Machu Picchu offers 3 excellent options: The Intipunku (Sun Gate) trek is included with all entrances as standard; Then
you have the popular Huayna Picchu trek, which is quite an adrenaline rush and often sells out months in advance; Or you have the equally as good
but less popular Machu Picchu Mountain trek, which is more than twice the duration and climbs up higher – giving you views out over the whole
area. Ask our travel team if you’d like to book one. Yet another option, for the truly adventurous types, is the Putucusi trek… although this one is not
for the faint hearted!

With private tours you have your own vehicle, driver, and tour guide - helping you make the most of your time and giving you more flexibility.
